Today we announce the launch of Arival, a new event that advances the business of in-destination experiences.
There are plenty of travel industry conferences, yet the global travel, tourism and hospitality industry has all but ignored tours, activities, events and attractions. It is these experiences (not flights, not hotels) which inspire travel in the first place.
The time for Arival is now. Here’s why:
- The global marketplace for in-destination experiences is big: more than $130 billion in traveler spend worldwide. That is more than twice the size of car rental and cruise – combined.
- Many innovative startups are bringing affordable, modern reservations and distribution tech to tens of thousands of suppliers. They are laying the foundation for what will be huge growth for online and mobile commerce.
- Mobile is transforming how travelers decide what to do when they get there. The old days and old ways of ticket offices, wholesalers, and brochures by the concierge desk just doesn’t cut it.
- There is no event that meets the needs of the thousands of small and medium size businesses that serve the traveler in-destination. Where can they turn for market information, to learn about new technology, or acquire the skills to adapt to today’s modern traveler?
Sightseeing tours, attractions, activities – these are not airlines or hotels. They face very distinct challenges to marketing, distribution, technology, fulfillment, and more.
It’s high time travel’s third largest and most important sector – in-destination experiences – got its own event and its own voice. An event that assembles its leaders, serves its needs and celebrates its impact.
Now it does.
Arival’s mission: Establish “tours and activities” as the major sector of the global travel, tourism and hospitality industry that it deserves to be.
